Nexgen
Delivers Century Tool to Convert Systems Developed with AS/SET
Fall
COMMON, San Antonio, TX - Nexgen/2K, Inc. announces a
century dating solution designed for companies that develop
and maintain their AS/400® applications using the
AS/SET CASE tool from System Software Associates, Inc. (SSA).
Focus/A2K, a new add-on to the widely successful Nexgen/2K
and Focus/2000 software products, provides an efficient, rapid,
and reliable path to century compliance for companies that
have an ongoing investment in AS/SET development.
Focus/A2K
simplifies clients' future development work in AS/SET by making
century corrections to their AS/SET Action Diagrams (program
logic) and Data Models (database definitions).
Focus/A2K
proves to be an especially important option for users of SSA's
BPCS® Version 5.1. This version consists
almost entirely of AS/SET-generated programs. Before the release
of Focus/A2K, users of this version were looking at a forced
upgrade to BPCS® Version 6.0.
"SSA
has stranded the BPCS® Version 5.1 user base with no affordable
way to make their AS/SET-based applications century-compliant,"
said Dan Mitchell, Chief Technology Officer and Principal
of Nexgen. "Companies that do not wish to upgrade to
BPCS® V6.0 now have a complete and cost-effective alternative
in Focus/A2K: an alternative that lets them retain the investment
they have made in AS/SET code."
Companies
that have purchased Focus/A2K include DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical
Company of Wilmington, Delaware and The Standard Products
Company of Detroit, Michigan.
Focus/A2K
Technical Specifications
Focus/A2K
automatically synchronizes Repository data models against
newly expanded dates in the associated database files.
Focus/A2K
does not alter the way dates and year fields are presented
on screens and reports. Dates previously presented as
6 digits will continue to be presented as 6 digits.
Year fields previously presented as 2 digits will continue
to be presented as 2 digits.
As
in Nexgen's RPG and CL conversion products, Focus/A2K
automatically makes corrections to the program logic
(action diagrams), rather than just identifying where
changes need to be made.
All
changes to action diagrams are marked using conventional
notation. No original statements are ever physically
deleted from the action diagram.
No
negative impact on future development: following the
Focus/A2K date conversion, users will continue to handle
all AS/SET edit and build activities within the original
AS/SET tool environment.
Focus/A2K
analyzes and redefines data structures as needed to
provide substring processing required for detailed date
manipulations.
Focus/A2K
intercepts and corrects defective native AS/SET date
functions including %CMD, %MDC, %DMC and %NOD.
