Bristol-Myers
Squibb of Japan Uses Nexgen Focus/2000 to Correct Double Byte
BPCS®
San
Rafael, California -- September 29 1998 Christopher
Herron, Managing Director of Nexgen Asia/Pacific, Inc., announced
that Bristol-Myers Squibb, Tokyo has successfully completed
the Year 2000 conversion of 13 legacy BPCS® applications,
thanks to the combined efforts of AS/400 experts from Bristol-Myers
and Sanwa Comtec KK (Tokyo), Nexgen's Japanese business partner.
Bristol-Myers Squibb is a global health and personal care
company with FY 1997 revenue of $510 billion.
"A
special Y2K team converted all six-digit date codes in 3,700
RPG and CL programs to eight digits using Nexgen's Focus/2000
automated conversion tool," reports Herron.
Focus/2000
was specifically designed by BPCS® experts at Nexgen to
automate the century-date correction of System Software Associates'
ERP system, BPCS® . Focus/2000 is in use at hundreds of
sites worldwide, and dozens of companies have already completed
their millennium conversions due to the speed, precision,
and reliability of the software. Bristol Myers Squibb used
the special double byte version of Focus/2000 to deal with
the Japanese language requirements.
"Bristol-Myers
Squibb had modified all of their BPCS® applications since
they were first installed in 1993," comments S. Kakizawa
at Sanwa Comtec. "Modifications of 7 of the 13 applications
were complex; 3 were moderately complex, and three were simple
modifications. Focus/2000 helped us convert all of the modified
code, too."
"All
of our 870+ users are very pleased with the conversion,"
reports M. Uchida, Information Manager at Bristol-Myers Squibb.
"Our Y2K team was led by Business System Development
Manager Y. Kitagawa. Four AS/400 programmers worked on the
project with him: T. Kashiwagi and N. Higuchi from Bristol-Myers
Squibb Japan and M. Shimoyasiki and C. Tanaka from Sanwa Comtec.
They completed the conversions and thoroughly tested the system
within eight monthsùon time and within budget. Without Focus/2000
it would have taken them much longer and cost more."
Sanwa
Comtec is a leading supplier of Year 2000 products in Japan.
